IKEA opening In Portland!

Yes, we've had a pick-up place for years. But as of July 25, IKEA is opening an actual store here in the Portland metro area. According to the press release, the building itself is going to be massive. When I say massive, I mean absolutely ginormous! As in 280,000 square feet. 19 acres.

The store will be located right next to the Portland International Airport right off of Airport Way and 205. There will 1200 parking spaces, 75 bike racks and a light-rail station in front of the store. (!) Within the store there will be three complete model homes, a gourmet Swedish restaurant and acres of the Swedish design we've all come to know and love. See you there!

New DS Colors Hit Japan

Yet again, Nintendo releases something new to Japan first while we over here in the states have to just press our noses up to the monitor screen and wish upon a star. This time it's 3 new DS Lite colors; Not-quite-dead-yet blue, I-think-I'm-gonna-hurl Orange and gunmetal. *Licks screen for the not-quite-dead-yet blue. I don't know about you guys, but I'm heading over to Pink Godzilla to drool over the overpriced import stuff.

YouTube Draws You Too!

YouTube has spawned all kinds of neat little projects. But, I think this is one of the cooler ones. The User EclecticAsylumArt chooses a video from the various categories and draws them without erasing and posts a video of him doing it. It's amazing to watch. Not only is it a cool idea, this man is an amazing artist. Check out the video:

The Video Game World is ASPLODING!

Over the past few days, the media has been getting a huge surge of video game related news. Some of it's interesting, most of it horrifying, for various reasons. Here's a bit of a recap as to what's going on:

Take Two/Rockstar's absolutely disgusting gorefest of a game has recieved the 23rd ever AO (Adults Only) Rating in ESRB history. Normally, this isn't a big deal seeing how it's not exactly the first time that Rockstar or Take Two are getting media attention for their ridiculously violent or sexual antics. But this one's getting a lot of attention because it's actually banned in most of Europe! Not to mention the fact that Sony and Nintendo won't even allow AO rated games to played on their systems. Believe it or not, people are actually defending the company, saying that they have every right to create such a game and people should have the choice to choose whether or not they want to play it without being censored. Well, I'm not going to get into a political debate here, but I do think that all of this rukus is a bit much.

Also in gaming news, Spore has been delayed until fiscal year 2009. For those of us who don't know, that means after April 2009. Yeah, that's 2 years away. And, yeah, that sucks. I believe the proverbial Darth Vader "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" is in order.

Square Enix is opening their US Online Store sometime soon. Very exciting, I know.

Nintendo has almost completely closed the gap between Sony as it comes to market share. Not just in a specific console, but as company.

A college student is currently being harassed by hundreds of emails as a result of Bungie's Halo 3 Viral Marketing scam. Ugh, I personally hate viral marketing and refuse to speak anymore on the subject. I will, however, say that I feel sorry for the poor guy. Another victim of Tutone Syndrome.

So that's what's going on in the video game world just in the last two days. Stay tuned to see what other crazy antics go on!

Pixelized Jewels

Have you always wanted to wear a stupidly expensive piece of jewelry? Now you can, in a way.
" Mike and Maakie is literally a high-tech remix of stolen jewelry into an almost unrecognizably low-res form. First taking poor quality images of the jewelry from the web, the photos are pixelated and then printed on scored leather. " via Shiny Shiny
I would love to see this on a red carpet. :)

West Coast Swing is Awesome!

So Chrissy (my wife) and I started learning West Coast Swing at the Ballroom Dance Company a few weeks back. So far, we've had an absolute BLAST! It's a tough dance to learn, especially for dance noobs like us, but we're learning and having a great time at it. Anyway, I offered a certain poster on this here blog to come with us and he said something to the effect that he wanted a dance that required more movement and skill. Well, check this out!

Oh yeah, I went there. If you wanna come learn with us, it's $25 for five lessons over 5 weeks. If you need help with the steps, I can help you with that.

WWDC 2007 Keynote

Leopards. Phones. Turtle necks. What do all of these things have in common? You guessed it, a circus! Rather, what we nerds like to call WWDC. With a half hour left to go until the keynote begins, let's begin speculating. What could be cooler than a personal time machine? Crazier than your own, over priced, 3G phone? I'm not sure. But we'll find out together in about 30 minutes!

Check out the keynote live at UpStream. Better get there early so you can reserve a spot on the server and listen to the crazy techno, jazz, and pop music they've been playing for the past 30 minutes.

Oh, and one more thing...

Breakdancing Baby :)

Hey Tamara, xto, and Austen. Babies are breakdancing now.

Hehe, maybe they'll unite against that mean old breakdancer man. Oh and that last post about the image magic self aware software thing was mind bending cool. Now I'll go back to sitting on my couch using my wiimote as my mouse.

Prepare for your mind to explode!

Just watch this! I mean seriously... just... wow. The future is here!
