Over the past few days, the media has been getting a huge surge of video game related news. Some of it's interesting, most of it horrifying, for various reasons. Here's a bit of a recap as to what's going on:
Take Two/Rockstar's absolutely disgusting gorefest of a game has recieved the 23rd ever AO (Adults Only) Rating in ESRB history. Normally, this isn't a big deal seeing how it's not exactly the first time that Rockstar or Take Two are getting media attention for their ridiculously violent or sexual antics. But this one's getting a lot of attention because it's actually banned in most of Europe! Not to mention the fact that Sony and Nintendo won't even allow AO rated games to played on their systems. Believe it or not, people are actually defending the company, saying that they have every right to create such a game and people should have the choice to choose whether or not they want to play it without being censored. Well, I'm not going to get into a political debate here, but I do think that all of this rukus is a bit much.
Also in gaming news, Spore has been delayed until fiscal year 2009. For those of us who don't know, that means after April 2009. Yeah, that's 2 years away. And, yeah, that sucks. I believe the proverbial Darth Vader "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" is in order.
Square Enix is opening their US Online Store sometime soon. Very exciting, I know.
Nintendo has almost completely closed the gap between Sony as it comes to market share. Not just in a specific console, but as company.
A college student is currently being harassed by hundreds of emails as a result of Bungie's Halo 3 Viral Marketing scam. Ugh, I personally hate viral marketing and refuse to speak anymore on the subject. I will, however, say that I feel sorry for the poor guy. Another victim of Tutone Syndrome.
So that's what's going on in the video game world just in the last two days. Stay tuned to see what other crazy antics go on!
